Our Thoughts

“ …when I was a much younger man, and a member of the Boy Scouts movement, I remember catching a bus to Bristol from Tockington. I remember standing by a lovely village green whilst waiting for it. The bus still runs to Bristol from that lovely green and this magnificent “family” cottage faces out across it. Why was I in Tockington? – well we had camped in the grounds of a Preparatory School during the summer holidays. The School is a short walk away along a country lane and is, of course, Tockington Manor and is still, as it was then, a much sought after private school. I tell you all this to conjure up the timeless quality of this great cottage standing, as it has, unchanged for almost 300 years. I said earlier “Family” cottage and again I use this to suggest that this isn’t some dark “pokey” little cottage but a generous four bedroom family home with a ground floor cloakroom, a lovely family bathroom, a great kitchen with ancient “wall frames”  adjoining a real dining room and a further study down stairs. All the first floor bedrooms are of “decent” size and the bathroom is a real surprise. Gardens are difficult in villages but this cottage not only has a nice garden at the rear but a smaller lawn at the front and yes … you can get your car off the road too which is a real bonus. Tockington is a stones throw from Aztec West and the motorway network and yet is surrounded by beautiful countryside with lovely walks and great scenery. If you’d like an evening in an old coaching Inn then the Swan is a close enough neighbour to be staggered from yet does not encroach on the cottage. So, to re-cap, if you are looking for a country cottage close to the City yet still with a rural feel; close to great schools and a good pub – you may have to look no further … Viewing Essential.

Directions

From our offices turn left and leave Thornbury up the hill to Alveston. Turn right opposite the “Ship” hotel and proceed out of the village and into “Old Down” just past the football field turn left and continue down the hill into Tockington. “Kirkby”  can be found by turning right  here then its just along on the left.
